Chew on this,
It's the phase I've come to hate. But I hear a lot...
"I get the truth, I watch Fox News."
My eyes roll when I hear it. And it's usually said with a confident, self-congratulating tone.
It's not the fact that you watch Fox News. I do frequently (not for news), there's nothing wrong with that. But to imply that you're so smart that you can see through the lies and distortions of all of the other news media, then to turn around and not question the motives of one media source and pride yourself as you seem to take what they deliver as gospel without and cross-checking is only a testament to your remarkable gullibility.
It’s like saying “ I wouldn’t get virginity restoring drugs from CVS, or Wal-Mart. I only get my virginity restoring drugs from Rite Aid. They were willing to say their virginity restoring drug is FDA approved.” Congratulations, you just bought a faulty idea, because it was delivered strongly.
This is the model of con men. Remember the "Con" in Con man stands for "confidence man." They scam you by creating trust, trust enough to let down you guard, write a check, in the case of the right media company, buy tainted premises. MSNBC and CNBC had gotten into the con game and are getting better, but are green compared to Fox. Fox builds confidence in its victims by building up their egos. The "real" Americans see/know/won't put up (name of topic goes here). Fox also employs another tactic of con men (and cults), isolating you from others who can expose the scam. Usually by character assassination or positioning them as a threat to you so you learn to ignore them-whatever they say. The New York Times/MSNBC/George Soros/etc want to make you liberal/gay/godless/poor/open a hot dog stand. Good thing you have good 'ol Fox News to make you see the light. Huh? What's that I'm putting up your rectum, unquestioning media watcher? Uh...oh that's just a happy stick. The liberal media would say I'm sodomizing you...see that's just how liberals work. Glad you're watching me, Fox News for the truth.
Like I said, Fox excels at this but it's a trait with all media. So the trick is not to drop your guard with any new source. Question. Because you don't pay their salaries, so the person they live to ultimately please isn't you.
